How to Stop Spreading the Common Cold

If you’ve recently fallen victim to the symptoms of a common cold, you are probably trying your best not to get others around you sick as well. From the moment you feel one coming on – you know the signs: sore throat, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, and perhaps sinus pressure – you should begin taking steps to protect yourself and others with a few simple steps.

Avoid close contact with others. Try to refrain from shaking hands, hugging or kissing other people around you. When possible, you will want to stay at home while you are sick, this will decrease the risk of spreading the virus to coworkers and friends.

In the event that you cannot stay home, try to move away from others before coughing or sneezing. Try coughing or sneezing into a tissue then immediately throwing it away. If you need to cough or sneeze into your hands, wash your hands after doing so. You will want to wash your hands after blowing your nose, as well. Be sure you are scrubbing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to rid your hands of the viruses that can easily spread to others around you.

While there is no vaccine to protect you or others from the common cold, you can help prevent it by taking the precautions mentioned above.
