William W. Starks, M.D. specializes in Family Medicine. Before he became a family doctor Houston, Dr. Starks started his college career at Loyola University in New Orleans, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Subsequently, he obtained his medical degree at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He completed his residency at the University Of Miami Department Of Family Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident.
Following his training and education, Dr. Starks, joined the faculty at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICCOM) where his title was assistant professor of clinical Family Medicine. As a faculty member, Dr. Starks was responsible for training medical students and future family practice physicians, while maintaining a busy clinical practice. While at UICCOM, Dr. Starks also served as the director of Geriatrics. He was also the Medical director of the Winnebago County Jail for approximately four years while employed with UICCOM. During his stint at the University, he was also the director of the procedure clinic at the Family Health Center, where he performed multiple procedures in primary care and trained students and residents to perform procedures.
Dr. Starks has memberships in the American Board of Family Medicine and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. He was also formerly a member of the United States Army Medical Corps and The Swedish American Hospital Medicine Quality Control Board. As a Faculty at UICCOM he was recognized as Faculty of the Year.
While he is serving patients at our family practice Houston, Dr. Starks takes special interest in educating patients about: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, food addiction, primary care procedures, urgent care and sports-related medicine.
